Students to Compete for Microsoft Spot

Certport Microsoft Office Specialist World Championship
Two Ugandan secondary school students will compete in this year's Certport Microsoft Office Specialist World Championship set to begin on July 31 and end on August 3 in Washington D.C.

Majaso Limited, a long standing partner of Certport Inc the lead organizers, said students from twelve secondary schools will sit a qualifying Microsoft Office Specialist exam in Microsoft W0rd 2010 or Microsoft Excel 2010 from which the winning two will be announced on June 14.

"We are excited to hold the first Microsoft Office Specialist competition in Uganda and send two finalists to gain international exposure and represent our country in the World Championship," Kulvinder Soor (pictured right), Director Majaso Limited said last week.

Vernasios Baryamurreba, a lead consultant for the project said the competition will go a long way in shaping the IT skills of the participating students and will promote computer use in the country.

Baryamureba however commented that IT infrastructures and qualified instructors are still a problem in Uganda. Uganda will be the first in East and Central Africa to send representatives to the championship which has been ongoing for the last 20 years. Majaso, will work with both the education and ICT ministries to create a skilled workforce of the future starting at primary and secondary schools.
