Sixteen specialist (ENT) nurses graduated

Sixteen specialist ear, nose and throat nurses have graduated at the 10th annual congregation of the Ear, Nose and Throat (ENT) Nursing School at the Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital (KATH) Nursing Training School in the Ashanti Region.

They were presented with certificates after 18 months of training at the school, and they are in to share the demands on the few ear, nose and throat nurses nationwide.

Speaking at a congregation ceremony, Alhaji Abdul Rahaman Shaban, Principal of the ENT Nursing School, said since the establishment of the school in 2002, it had trained about 160 ear, nose and throat nurses to support the development and quality healthcare service in the country.

He said the school was encountering a number of challenges in the areas of classrooms, tutors accommodation, permanent office complex and other logistics to enhance effective teaching and learning at the school.

He urged the government and other stakeholders to support the school to achieve its objective of improving quality health delivery in the country.

Dr Opoku Buabeng, Co-ordinator of the Ear, Nose and Throat Nursing School, said the services of ear, nose and throat specialist are needed for effective health care in the country.

Mr Ebenezer T. Otieku, Senior Registrar (Administration) of the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST), said in recent years, there had been a growing concern to provide nursing education at the tertiary level to offer a more academic perspective to students at the undergraduate levels.

He said the university was committed to promoting students and training nurses and other health personnel to boost the health service in the country.

Ms Marcy Yeboah Amponsah, of Agogo Hospital, was adjudged the overall best student.
