President Sata to Launch Construction of Palabana University

Zambian President Sata
PRESIDENT Michael Sata has said the Government is determined to establish a university in each of the 10 provinces of the country to improve access to tertiary education.

The Head of State is today expected to lay a foundation stone for the construction of Palabana University in Chongwe District as the Government continues to improve the education sector.

Two weeks ago, Mr Sata laid a foundation stone for the construction of Chalimbana University in Chongwe and also launched the construction of a link road to Chirundu.

Mr Sata said yesterday that the birth of Chalimbana and Palabana universities would shortly be followed by the upgrading of infrastructure in other universities created so far. "I am proud to announce that Government has already completed the transformation of Nkrumah College of Education in Kabwe into a fully-fledged university of social sciences. Government has further completed the transformation of the Copperbelt College of Education in Kitwe into a fully-fledged Mukuba University of Natural Sciences," Mr Sata said.

This is contained in a statement issued by State House Special Assistant to the President for Press and Public Relations George Chellah in Lusaka yesterday. Mr Sata said the establishment of the universities underscored Government's determination to increase access to tertiary education. Government, he said, was determined to establish a university in each of the 10 provinces and was currently completing construction works at the Robert Kapasa Makasa University of Science and Technology in Chinsali District in Muchinga Province
