Our correspondent learnt that the only science laboratory being used by the private school had been abandoned for many years before the 2012/2013 batch ‘B’ members led by Mr. Uzoh Nnamdi, mobilised funds and put the facility into use, within three months.
Other corps members that revamped the lab include Adesegun Seun, Adegoke Lawrence, Omovudu Wealth, Chidimma Njoku, Onyinye Okekeofojebe, Nnadi Nkechi and Okafor Ogechukwu.
Speaking at the inauguration of the facility at Oke-Aro, Akure premises of the school on Friday, the Head of the Community Development Service of the NYSC in the state, Mrs. Maria Osadebey, described the corps members’ initiative as worthy of emulation.
She noted that the corps members realised the importance of laboratory in the teaching of science subjects and took it upon themselves to provide one for the school where they were carrying out their primary assignment.
Osadebey, who was accompanied to the occasion by the Head of Agriculture Department of the NYSC in the state, Mr. Paul Igbanor, expressed confidence that the laboratory would provide pupils with an opportunity to use up-to-date models and implement scientific theories.
She said, “The science laboratory will also improve the overall scientific literacy of the pupils and prepare them well as the next generation of scientists and engineers.
“It will reduce incidence of mass failure in external examinations, create enabling environment for learning and support the efforts of government to provide qualitative education.”
Proprietress of the school, Mrs. Yemisi Ewuola, commended the corps members for taking up the challenge of renovating the facility and urged pupils to take the advantage of it to ensure proper usage.
