A group of 14 representatives from China’s largest integrated energy company, China National Petroleum Corporation (CNPC), has recently arrived in the UAE for an intensive Arabic language training program at the University of Wollongong in Dubai (UOWD) Language Studies Centre.

The Language Studies Centre (LSC) established a training agreement with CNPC in 2012 and this is the second cohort of language students to attend a program at UOWD. With a number of subsidiary companies in the Middle East, CNPC looked to the LSC to develop a bespoke language training program for engineering personnel working across the region.

During their orientation, the trainees were extended a traditional Arabic welcome with coffee and dates in the UOWD majlis. Alongside their language training, participants are also looking forward to gaining a wider understanding of Arabic culture and customs as part of the six month program.

Director of the UOWD Language Studies Centre, Ms Shanae Reed, said, “Providing such programs is increasingly important in the globalised economy as it helps to mobilise students, which in turn helps them to function successfully in an international environment.”
