Cross River Refurbishes Schools With N6 Billion |
Speaking through his deputy Efiok Cobham in Calabar yesterday, Imoke said he had to embark on comprehensive renovation of secondary schools in the state to emphasise on the quality education his government had pledged to provide. He was speaking when he declared open a two-day retreat on ICT/e-learning organised by the state ministry of education in collaboration with Educomp Solutions Limited.
"My government recognised the need to provide unhindered access to qualitative education in the state. The evidence of comprehensive renovation of secondary schools is visible in all the 18 local government areas of the state in which the government has invested over N6 billion from 2007 to date. At the primary school level, we have also fulfilled our obligation by paying more than N2.7 billion as counterpart fund," he said.
He said this has led to rehabilitation and construction of over 500 classroom blocks in primary schools, saying the reason for the renovation is to expand access and ensure that school-age children are not denied access to qualitative education.
