Burglars Steal Undisclosed Sum From Nasarawa University
An unspecified number of thieves broke into Nasarawa State University, Keffi (NSUK), and carted away funds running into millions of naira from the safes of the bursary section.

But the robbery which was discovered on Monday after staff reported for work has not been reported to the police for investigation, according to Mr. John Aboh, university's Chief Security Officer (CSO)

"We have not reported the incident to the police because it is an internal thing. We are still investigating," said the security officer. He added that "you know this is not the first time it is happening; last year too, they burgled and stole some cameras and laptops. We had to investigate internally and discovered our security men on duty were complacent; so we asked them to pay."

It was difficult to ascertain the amount stolen, as unconfirmed sources gave varying figures of N10 million, N15 million and N30 million. But Mr. Aboh denied any of the amounts was stolen, although he said some amount of money, which he refused to disclosed, was stolen.

"I told you, we are still investigating the incident", he said, adding that the security on duty the night of Sunday when the theft happened reported the incident, following which their claim is being investigated.

He insisted that details of the incident can only be obtained from the university Vice Chancellor, the Registrar and the spokesman.

But the spokesman, Jamil Zakari could not be reached on phone by yesterday, just as the Registrar of the university, Dalhatu Mamman, refused to speak on the matter, insisting the Bursar was in the best of position to speak about the amount stolen.

When Daily Trust spoke with him, the Bursar, Mr. Steven Azizi insisted he cannot, by administrative protocol speak to Daily Trust on the theft of funds in his office, insisting the Registrar and the Vice Chancellor, Professor Shamsudeen Omali are the only authorities to make official comments.

But Azizi confirmed theft in his office, although declined to disclose the sum stolen.
