Zamfara Builds More Schools to Boost Education
The Zamfara State government has embarked on renovation and construction of more schools to boost education in the state, chairman of the State Universal Basic Education Board (SUBEB), Murtala Adamu, has said.

He spoke yesterday when the National Good Governance Tour team went on an inspection of projects at Muhammad Dan Sokoto model primary school and Usman Dangwaggo secondary school in Bungudu Local Government Area of the state.

Adamu said the present administration has so far renovated 50 schools at the cost of N1.3 billion, built 323 classrooms in rural areas and set up 22 early child care facilities.

He told the team that the state has already accessed its N3 billion intervention fund from the Universal Basic Education Commission (UBEC) for 2012.

Adamu said other steps taken by the state to improve its education sector and to promote girl child education includes training for teachers and sponsoring female secondary school leavers at the Federal College of Education Maru, with the collaboration of the United Nations Children Education Fund (UNICEF).

He said the idea behind training the female gender is to have 2000 girl teachers by 2020, that will in turn serve as role models to female students.

Special Adviser to Information Minister on Media, Kingsley Osadolo, who stood in for the minister, advised the state to create recreational centres for its pupils. He also urged that they establish a maintenance governance system.

The team also inspected facilities at the Government Secondary School Maru and Muhammadu Mu'aledi Arabic Secondary School in Maradun.
