The Somalia government has given Mount Kenya University the go-ahead to put up a branch in Somaliland. The university board of trustee chairman Simon Nyutu Gicharu said they have letter of interim authority to go ahead with the project.

He was speaking at MKU main campus in Thika, where he hosted Rwanda's Minister for Local Government James Musoni and President Kagame economic advisor Prof Nshuti Manasseh.

Gicharu said his university will help Somalia get to its feet after decades of war. Prof Stanley Waudo, MKU vice chancellor, said they to equip Somalis with proper skills and knowledge. Gicharu said the university wants to become an African and global institution.
