200 Level UNILAG student drown at Lagos beach

 A 200 level Medical  student of the University of Lagos, Tuesday, drowned at Elegusi beach, in Ikate, Eti-Osa Local Government Area of Lagos State.

This came as the body of a construction worker with the China Civil Engineering Construction Company, CCECC, currently working on the expansion of Ikorodu road, was recovered, Thursday, three days after he fell into the lagoon at Fadeyi Oloro bridge, Asolo, Lagos.

Information available to Vanguard revealed that the 200 level student of the Department of Dentistry, whose identity was given as Eniola Abiola, went to the beach to mark the birthday of one of her friends, at about 8p.m.

But tragedy struck when Eniola and other friends said to be   taking  photographs with the celebrant, were swept away by ocean waves. While others reportedly managed to escape, Eniola  could not. She was reportedly swept into the ocean.

Help was far from her as the lifeguards were said to have closed for the day. The incident was said to have brought the celebration to a close as some of the panic stricken youths hurriedly left the beach, while others waited in vain for their friend to be swept back to the shore.

Drowned CCECC  worker’s  body recovered

Meantime, the bloated  body of Ashafa Balogun, a construction worker with CCECC, was yesterday recovered, three days after he fell into the lagoon.

While an account said the 27-year-old  technician  slipped into the lagoon while taking his bath after the close of work, Tuesday, another account had it that he was casting iron meant for construction.

Effort had been on to recover the body until, yesterday morning,  when it was seen floating under Majidun bridge, Ikorodu.

The deceased who hailed from Edo State, according to one of his colleagues who gave his name simply as Gbadamosi, had been working as casual staff for two years.

Officials of the Lagos State Ambulance Service, LASAMBUS, were said to have removed Gbadamosi’s remains at about 10 a.m. to the morgue.
