Nigeria: Lecturer calls for Introduction of anti-terrorism studies

A Senior Lecturer in the Department of Political Science, University of Ibadan, Dr. Olufemi Michael, has appealed to relevant stakeholders in the education sector to consider introducing anti cultism studies in school curriculum to stop violence in the society.

Michael made the call in Ota during a one-day workshop on National Campaign on Cultism, according to a statement on Monday.

He explained that the call became imperative for peace to reign in the country, adding that cultism was becoming a threat to the nation’s democracy.


He said, “Experience has shown that cultism has nothing good to offer except violence. It has claimed lives of young and vibrant men and women who should be making meaningful contributions to the development of the society. If not given required attention that could stop it, it would wreak greater havoc.

“Cultism among our youths today has become a cankerworm that has eaten deep into our educational system, and if not checked, it could assume a very dangerous dimension that is capable of destroying our nascent democracy”.

While commending Ogun State Governor, Ibikunle Amosun, for the provision of quality education, he urged parents to pay attention to training their children.
