ASIA: Key Appointments in APRU-Tohoku University Multi-hazards Program

Professor Yuichi Ono and Dr Takako Izumi were recently appointed as chair and program coordinator respectively, of the APRU-Tohoku University Multi-hazards Program. The President of Tohoku University agreed last year that its International Research Institute on Disaster Science (IRIDeS) should be the first APRU hub for multi-hazards.

Professor Yuichi Ono is from the International Institute of Disaster Science, Tohoku University. He earned his PhD in the US, has worked with the World Meteorological Organisation in Geneva, UNESCAP in Bangkok, and has extensive international research experience.



Dr Takako Izumi, who will take on her new role from 1 April 2013, has overseen disaster response, disaster risk reduction and volunteer management at MERCY Malaysia. Prior to this, she had working experience in UN Habitat, UNOCHA, UNISDR as well as the UN Office for Recovery Coordinator for Aceh and Nias (UNORC). She holds a Master's degree in international relations and a PhD in global environmental studies.
